Abohar, February 13
Kinnow growers are staring at loss due to farmers’ ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and the February 16 ‘Bharat Bandh’, as price would further dip following supply chain derailment.
Sushil Siyag, former president of Sarpanch Union Abohar block, said the farmers’ protest that started in the peak kinnow marketing season would harm growers and contractors, who were already facing the recession.
“Fruit growers will suffer a huge loss as the marketing of kinnow will be stopped due to sealing of borders with Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Suspension of supply and marketing of kinnow will hit the rates badly,” he said. He added that almost 40% of kinnow were yet to be plucked.
Notably, the kinnow growers on Thursday dumped the fruit outside Fazilka DC’s office over low price.
