Faridkot, January 31
Sukhminder Singh Maan, former SSP, Faridkot, has approached the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Faridkot, to drop proceedings against him in the Kotkapura police firing case.
He claimed that as there was no previous sanction from the state government for his prosecution, thus the proceedings need to be dropped against him. As former Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma had also approached the court to drop proceedings initiated against him in this case, the court has asked the prosecution to file reply in the next three days.
Though framing of charges is pending against SAD chief Sukhbir Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and several other senior police officers, the duo urged the court to decide their application prior to the hearing of arguments.
While adjourning the case to February 5, the court said relevant statutory provision provides that no court shall take cognisance on account of lack of prior sanction for prosecution.
