Chandigarh, March 6
Giving impetus to Punjab, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed former president of the Punjab Youth Congress, Amarpreet Singh Lally, as one of the five national general secretaries of Indian Youth Congress (IYC).
Lally along with Anil Yadav, former state chief of the Youth Congress of Telegana, have been directly appointed as general secretaries of the IYC. A total of five general secretaries have been appointed by the AICC, with other three being: Abharam Mani, Deepak Mishra and Santosh Kolkunda, who were promoted from the post of secretaries.
Considered close to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Lally was one of the strong contenders for the Anandpur Sahib parliamentary seat in the last Lok Sabha Polls, before the AICC decided in favour of Manish Tewari, the sitting MP.
A senior leader said Lally was sidelined in the state politics and was not given the promised political post, whereas other less significant leaders managed to get appointed in boards and corporation. At a recently held function to announce Barinder Dhillon as new president of the Punjab Youth Congress, leaders had urged the Chief Minister to give political appointment to Lally.
