Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday urged Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to maintain status quo in allocating jobs to the state youth in Bhakra Beas Management Board and the National Fertilisers Limited plant in Nangal.

During a function at IIT Ropar, the Punjab School Education Minister opposed any change in the provision while saying that thousands of posts are lying vacant in both institutions.

He also sought the revival of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) workshop at Nangal, which he said has been non-functional for more than 40 years now.

The Minister said while area residents had given their precious land for the construction of the Bhakra-Nangal dam, canals and power plants and used to work in the BBMB and NFL in the past, their descendants had been denied jobs in the institutions.

Bains also demanded the restoration of the Nangal-Bhakra railway connectivity to boost tourism in Nangal and Anandpur Sahib, one of the most sacred religious places for Sikhs.
