Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia was granted exemption from appearance before a special investigation team (SIT) today. However, the leader has been asked to appear before the SIT on July 20.

He was asked to appear before the SIT at the Police Lines, Patiala, to explain his position in the drug case registered against him.

In a two-page reply, Majithia said his lawyer Damanbir Singh Sobti informed him of the appearance before the SIT, scheduled for 10 am today (July 18) in Patiala.

Majithia sought exemption from appearing, stating that, today, he was appearing in the CJM court in Amritsar in connection with a hearing in a defamation case filed by him against AAP leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and then Chairman of Delhi Dialogue Committee Ashish Khetan.
