Ludhiana, May 24

A major fire broke out at a yarn mill on RK road near Cheema chowk in Ludhiana on Sunday afternoon.

The factory—RK yarn mill—was closed but the owner was present on the premises and managed to escape.

Since there was only one way to enter the mill, firemen have been facing a challenging time as they attempt to douse the flames. Around 30 firemen have been deployed to control the fire. Fire station officer Srishti Nath Sharma said that the fire started at 12.30 pm, and it may take a few more hours before it can be controlled.

More than 40 fire tenders have already been used in the operation. The factory did not have fire safety arrangements in place, and the owner did not have a NOC from the fire department.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh orderded a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

"I have directed DC Ludhiana to look into the reasons behind the fire that broke out at RT Woollen Mills today. Luckily there have been no casualties. The fire department took prompt action and prevented the fire from spreading and causing more damage," he said in a tweet.
