Malerkotla admn starts drive to check Chinese string menace

In order to tackle Chinese string menace, the administration has resumed a drive to sensitise all stakeholders.

Office-bearers and activists of several social and educational organisations have been roped in for taking proactive measures to prevent mishaps during flying kites.

The administration led by DC Pallavi and SSP Gagan Ajit Singh launched a coordinated movement to inform the residents about dangers involved in flying kites with the Chinese string.

Following a ban on stock, sale and use of the Chinese string, the police teams and volunteers from the Rotary Club, Lions Club and other social organisations had organised a series of events before Lohri.

“Though no major incident has taken place in Malerkotla district, reports of loss of lives and severe injuries in other parts of the state necessitated revamping of proactive measures to sensitise all stakeholders about causes and consequences of the Chinese string,” said the SSP, adding that the DSPs had been advised to coordinate with educational institutes to spread awareness on the subject.

Surinder Pal Sofat, assistant governor, Rotary Club, said volunteers led by chief Venu Gopal Sharma, secretary Ashok Verma, director Deepak Sharma and principal Deepak Garg organised events jointly with the police in Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh.
