Students of various schools of the region vowed to take the campaign against drugs to every corner by acting as brand ambassadors of the movement launched by the police under Mission Sehyog.

An oath was taken during a function held at Government Senior Secondary School Bhogiwal today.

DSP (Special) Ranjit Singh Bains presided over the event held under the supervision of Malerkotla SSP Simrat Kaur.

District Sanjh Kendra incharge Surinder Pal Singh, convener of the event, said police personnel, led by SSP Simrat Kaur, had been organising events to sensitise different sections of society on causes and consequences of drug abuse with the intent to eradicate the evil from the society.

Students took active part in workshops and seminars on the ill-effects of drugs. They put across their ideas on the subject through painting. Outstanding performers were felicitated by the organisers.

SSP Kaur said creating awareness among students of schools and colleges against drug abuse was even more important than de-addiction and rehabilitation of those who had fallen prey to the menace.

“Teenagers are at the most vulnerable stage in their lives when they can fall prey to sinister designs of anti-social elements, including drug peddlers. Alerting the youth against the deleterious effects of drug abuse by organising educational events is sure to yield results in curbing the spread of the menace of drug addiction in future,” said Kaur.

The SSP called upon teachers and parents to be friendly with children and counsel them on important issues such as drugs.

DSP Bains, SHO City Sukhwinder Singh and Principal Harjinder Singh answered queries of students during the interactive session.
