Undeterred by gloomy reports about illegal immigrants' deportation, a woman, in connivance with three others, allegedly stole cash and jewellery worth over Rs 25 lakh from her home to fund her dream to reach Canada.

On the complaint of the woman's mother, the Malerkotla City 2 police have booked Tehrim Pathan, a resident of Jama Masjid Road area, Alizba of Sunami Gate (currently settled in Canada), Tabis of Sunami Gate Area and Shariq under Sections 317 (2) and 303 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly stealing cash worth Rs 11 lakh, 160 gram gold and silver ornaments weighing 250 gram.

Perusal of the FIR revealed that Tehrim had committed a burglary in conspiracy with the other three at her house after her mother showed helplessness to pay Rs 20 lakh to her for sending her to Canada.

Sayima, the complainant, said: “Aliza convinced my daughter to arrange Rs 20 lakh and get married to her cousin Tabis, after which she would be sent to Canada on a spouse visa and get the PR status.” She alleged that the accused stole cash and jewellery when the whole family was away last Monday.
