Man arrested for rape, murder of 9-year-old

Muktsar:  The Muktsar police on Saturday evening claimed to have cracked the kidnapping and murder case of a nine-year-old girl who had gone missing two days ago. Her body, bearing signs of sexual assault, was recovered this morning, sending shockwaves in the town. Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off, police teams zeroed in on the suspect, Mukesh Kumar (45) of Gurtej Nagar, who allegedly opened fire while attempting to flee. In retaliatory firing, Mukesh suffered a bullet injury on his leg and was overpowered. TNS

Governor to visit border districts from Dec 16

Fazilka:  Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will embark on a four-day tour to Rohtak, Delhi, Fazilka and Ferozepur from December 16 to 19. He will visit Rohtak and Delhi on December 16 and reach Fazilka on December 17 in the evening. On December 18, he will pay homage at Asafwala War Memorial, dedicated to 232 soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1971 War. Thereafter, he will lead an anti-drug march that will pass through various markets. On December 19, he will pay homage at a memorial to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at Hussainiwala. OC
