The Jalandhar (Rural) police have arrested a suspect involved in the vandalism of BR Ambedkar’s statue at Nangal village in Phillaur subdivision during June 1 night.
SSP (Rural) Harvinder Singh Virk said multiple police teams were constituted to crack the case. The suspect was identified as Kulwinder Singh, alias Binder, a resident of Kehar Singh Wala village under the Longowal police station in Sangrur district. He was apprehended from Barnala district on June 10. The police have also named Resham Singh of Hamidi Patti, near Dana Mandi, Moga, as the second suspect. He is still at large.
Investigations revealed that the accused were influenced by extremist ideologies and had previously been involved in anti-national and violent activities. SSP Virk said Kulwinder Singh was a habitual offender with strong pro-Khalistan leanings. His criminal history included charges of murder and various UAPA-related offences. Resham Singh was also named in multiple terror-related cases, he added.
