Man crushed to death as buses race for passengers in Moga

A man was crushed between two buses at a busy bus stop in Moga on Friday. The buses, engaged in fierce competition to pick up as many passengers as possible, caused the accident during the peak rush hour. The deceased has been identified as Surjit Singh.

Sources said a Punjab Roadways bus and another of a private operator were being recklessly driven to reach at Joginder Singh Chowk, a stop in the town, to get more passengers.

The deceased, attempting to board the Roadways bus from the rear side, was crushed when the driver of private bus tried to overtake it from the wrong side.

On the complaint of a relative of the deceased, the police have booked Jasbir Singh, the driver of the bus owned by Rajguru Transport Company, for the offence of causing death by negligence.

The incident has sparked outrage among commuters, with many expressing their frustration over the dangerous overcrowding that has become common during peak hours “The competition between buses for more passengers has reached an alarming level. This incident is a wake-up call,” said a police officer.
