Man held for killing father over property dispute

Investigation by the Hanumangarh police revealed Ram Pratap Kasnia (58), a farmer, was killed by his son, who also hurt his mother Chanderkala (55) in wee hours on Monday. The accused, identified as Rameshwer Lal had faked an “attack” by unidentified miscreants while reporting the crime to the police.

Superintendent of Police Preeti Jain said Rameshwer Lal had a property dispute with his father. He attacked his parents, who were sleeping in the house, with a sharp weapon.

Rameshwer later cooked up a story of two unidentified persons barging into the house, attacking his parents and taking away valuables. He even injured himself.

Rameshwer told the police that he was sleeping in his house with his wives Kaushalya and Sumitra, and two daughters Ayana and Aarzoo, when someone attacked him with a weapon. He protected himself with the help of a pillow, and after he got up in panic, he saw two men running, Rameshwer said. When he caught one of them, the other man hit him with a stick and both of them managed to escape, he said.

The victims were brought to the government hospital, Rawatsar, where the doctors declared Ram Pratap dead. Chanderkala was referred to Bikaner. Her condition is critical.

The police sought help from FSL experts and a dog squad to investigate the spot. An axe was recovered from a nearby well. The sniffer dogs led the investigation team to Rameshwer’s house.

After the last rites of the deceased were performed yesterday evening, Rameshwer confessed to his crime, on interrogation. He wanted to grab the land by killing his parents.
