Abohar, August 17

A resident of Johal Dhaiwala village in Tarn Taran has been held by Rajasthan Police for smuggling poppy husk under the guise of groceries.

The police said Sub-Inspector Suman Shekhawat today stopped a truck on the express highway and seized 105 kg of poppy husk, which was hidden under groceries. The driver, Nirmal Singh (42), a resident of Johal Dhaiwala village under the jurisdiction Dera Sahib police station in Tarn Taran district, was arrested. The police said a case under the NDPS Act has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The police said when the truck was stopped on the motorway highway, its owner was also aboard, who dodged cops and fled.

Police officials said a preliminary investigation revealed that groceries were loaded in Maharashtra for Punjab. On the way, the owner and driver also illegally loaded 105 kg of poppy husk from a place near Phalodi.
