Man, son feared drowned in canal at Muktsar village

Had allegedly recorded a video before jumping into the canal

A 34-year-old man and his teenage son are feared to have drowned in the Rajasthan Feeder canal near Jhabelwali village in Muktsar district on Saturday. Efforts are under way to trace them.

Muktsar DSP Satnam Singh said that the Bariwala police received information this morning that a man and his son had allegedly ended their lives by jumping into the canal.

“Those feared drowned belong to Marar village in Faridkot district. Our police team, the village panchayat and the family members of those feared drowned are present at the spot. Two private divers are trying to trace them. Besides, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been called in from Bathinda,” said the DSP.

Sources claimed that the duo had allegedly recorded a video before jumping into the canal, giving information about them taking the extreme step.

On this, the DSP said, “The video is being verified. We are also recording the statements of the family to initiate legal action.”
