A farmer of Mansa district, who sold his land to send his daughter Beant Kaur (25) to Canada two months ago, has appealed to the government to help bring her body back to India. Beant reportedly died of a heart attack in Canada.

The family, which is now under a financial stress, does not have money to bring the body home. It has appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Bathinda Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal to provide assistance.

Mithu Singh, who owned two acres of land in Barah village, sold one acre of land and spent around Rs 26 lakh to send his daughter to Canada two months ago. Now, the family has received the news that their daughter died of a heart attack in Canada.

Mithu Singh said he sent Beant to Canada on March 31 after spending a huge sum of money with the hope of improving the family’s situation but he was shattered when he received a call from Canada informing him of his daughter’s death. “Bringing her body back will cost a huge sum,” he said, adding that they reached out to several political leaders, but received no help.

Beant’s mother Jaswinder Kaur said she had dreams of seeing her daughter in a bride’s dress, but all such dreams were now shattered. They appealed to CM Mann and MP Harsimrat to provide assistance in bringing their daughter’s body back to India so that they could see her one last time.
