Impressed by the relief work being done by various Sikh organisations for the flood-affected people of the state, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, officiating Jathedar, Akal Takht, gave an open call for a special collective meeting of all Sikh organisations, institutions, groups, personalities, Punjabi actors and artists involved in flood-relief work at the SGPC office on September 13.
Bagicha Singh, in-charge of Akal Takht Secretariat, requested that each organisation should send only one representative so that relief and service efforts could continue smoothly. In this difficult time, the service offered is commendable and has sent a positive message of Punjab’s spirit of ‘Chardi Kala’ (ever-rising spirit). Relief material must be distributed in a planned way and long-term service must continue so that the donations and contributions (dasvandh) of supporters are not wasted or misused, he said.
He stressed that an investigation into the causes of these recurring floods in Punjab is crucial so that the people of the state could remain aware and prepared.
