Mining mafia opens fire at locals in Saidpur, Ropar

The district police have booked unidentified persons for allegedly opening fire at residents of Saidpur village after they tried to stop illegal mining in their area last night.

Village sarpanch Shingara Singh, along with residents, filed a complaint that illegal mining was being carried out in their area and when they tried to stop it, the mining mafia opened fire at them. SHO Jatin Kapoor said on the complaint of villagers, a case under Sections 336 and 188 of the IPC and the Arms Act had been registered against unidentified persons.

AAP general secretary Dinesh Chadha said it was strange that the mining mafia was still active.

Fazilka: Meanwhile, The police on Sunday arrested two persons and impounded sand-laden tractor-trailers in Shahpura village of Arniwala sub-tehsil.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Arniwala village and Mohinder Singh of Ojhanwali village.
