The doctors have suspended all non-essential and elective hospital services since Friday in view of rape-murder of a doctor while on duty in Kolkata. While supporting the protest of the doctors regarding their security and safety during the working hours, Dr Baljit Kaur said the state government would ensure the installation of CCTV cameras and increased police security by deploying women police staff in the hospitals to ensure the security of all doctors, particularly women healthcare staff.

She requested the doctors to resume their duty keeping in view the hardship being faced by the patients due the suspension of work. However, the protesting resident doctors said they would continue with the protest till they were assured security during the working hours in the hospitals.
