The body of Charis Goyal (19), who had been missing for two days, was found in a canal near Yatri village, Maur Mandi, following a two-day search by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday.

Her family staged a protest at the local police station seeking action in the case. This led to the arrest of five persons, including a couple and their son, who have been named in the case. The victim’s relatives accused them of kidnapping and murdering Goyal. Alleging delay in police action, Maur Mandi traders held a protest at the police station.

Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal said over 10 persons had been booked in connection with the case. Maur Mandi SHO Inspector Manjeet Singh had been suspended for alleged mishandling of the investigation, the SSP added.
