Moga, April 14

Moga Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans has stated that for the forthcoming wheat procurement season, which starts from April 15, only farmers and commission agents (arhtiyas) with curfew passes will be allowed to enter ‘mandis’. The passes will have to be procured from the local administration.

After holding a meeting with District Mandi Officer Jaswinder Singh and secretaries of market committees of Kot-ise-Khan, Fatehgarh Panjtoor, Dharamkot, Moga, Ajitwal, Badhni Kalan, Nihal Singh Wala and Baghapurana areas, the DC said the farmers, arhtiyas and labourers would have to bring their own food and water. No ‘rehri’ or makeshift stall serving eatables or beverages would be allowed inside the ‘mandi’.

Reiterating the state government’s decision, the DC said no one would be allowed to discard used masks in open places. The secretaries of the market committees had been asked to provide dustbins, wherein people could dispose of their used masks.

He said the commission agents could download their passes from the government portal assigned to them. Thereafter, the arhtiyas would issue passes to the farmers as per requirement. To know the status of their turn, the farmers would get a message on their mobile phones.

The DC said all curfew pass holders had been directed not to misuse the curfew passes. People have been advised to maintain a distance of at least 1 metre from one another in the ‘mandis’. The secretaries of market committees had also been asked to ensure running water supply in makeshift public toilets so that people faced no difficulty in washing their hands regularly.

Hans said if the farmers faced any problem, then they could contact the secretary of the market committee concerned.
