Punjab farmers have developed a park over 200 yards at the Tikri-Bahadurgarh border. They have also installed benches, cots and centre tables there, besides setting up a guest room.

The park has been barricaded with the help of tied-up bamboo sticks. The farmers have also installed five CCTV cameras in the area to keep a tab on anti-social elements and protect their belongings.

The park is being used by the protesting farmers to discuss the prevailing situation while guests from Punjab use the room to stay.

“Since heaps of garbage were lying at the site, residents of our village decided to clean the area and develop it into a park. It has been named ‘Sanjhi Chhat’,” said Gurcharan Singh from Manuke Gill village in Moga.

He said they had been organising langar near the park for the last two months.

Labh Singh, another farmer, said they lifted the garbage through tractor-trailers and then did earth-filling to level the surface. Plants were sown and flower pots were bought to give the site a shape of park. Benches were arranged and chairs were brought from Punjab. A make-shift room at the park had become the centre of attraction.

“Various farmer groups gather at the park daily to discuss the situation. We are also providing the WiFi facility,” said Mandeep Singh Gill, another farmer.
