A resident of Smalsar village of Baghapurana sub-division, Upinderjit’s father Swaran Singh Brar and mother Baljit Kaur Brar are both working as teachers in government schools.

“No matter, I worked hard for the examinations but securing first position was a surprise for me,” she said while adding that she will now contribute her best for the society.

She is the first person in her family and also in her distant relatives who will be joining the civil services.

Upinderjit said that it was her father’s dream to see her as a civil service officer.

She secured 91 per cent in Class X and 90 per cent in Class XII. She had an interest in science and has done B.SC and M.SC honours in Zoology.

No matter, she took coaching for few months but later studied herself at her home to prepare for the PCS examinations. “I was consistent on my studies, which paid me the results,” she said.
