Moga, June 15

A 40-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his friend with a sharp weapon for refusing to lend money at Sadda Singh Wala village in Moga district, police officials said today. The victim has been identified as Baljit Singh Soni, a resident of Sadda Singh Wala village.

Preliminary investigations revealed Baljit had gone to a nearby shop to purchase groceries where his friend Pargat Singh arrived and demanded money. As Pargat already owed him some money, Soni refused.

Infuriated at the refusal, Pargat allegedly attacked Baljit with a sharp weapon on the chest. The victim was taken to the district hospital, but he succumbed.

Baljit’s family members told the police Pargat used to take money from Soni but for the past few months, he (Pargat) was not returning it on time. This had led to the confrontation, they claimed. A case has been registered against Pargat, who was arrested soon after the incident.
