Moga man rapes sister-in-law

A married woman (27) was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law at Meenia village in Nihalsinghwala subdivision here.

The victim told the police that she got married to NRI Sukhpreet Singh, who was settled in US, on July 1 last year.

“After marriage, my husband stayed here for a couple of months, but later returned to the US with his parents, leaving me behind. Subsequently, he stopped talking to me,” the victim said.

She told the police that her husband solemnised another marriage in the US without taking divorce from her.

The victim said after she began to live at her in-laws’ house, her brother-in-law Harpreet Singh, who had been misbehaving with her for the past few weeks, raped her on June 12.

She alleged that her husband and in-laws were hand-in-glove with her brother-in-law.

A case has been registered against brother-in-law Harpreet Singh, husband Sukhpreet Singh, father-in-law Balwinder Singh and two women Pawanjit Kaur and Jaspreet Kaur at the Moga City-I police station.
