Moga police bust illicit liquor network; 3 arrested, 1,200 litres of 'lahan' seized
In the wake of the recent Amritsar hooch tragedy, the Moga police have intensified its campaign against illicit liquor distillation and sale. They claimed to have conducted a successful raid resulting in the seizure of 1,200 litres of lahan used for manufacturing illicit liquor today.
The operation was carried out by a team of the Fatehgarh Panjtoor Police Station, following a tip-off from an informant. The information revealed that several individuals from villages Sangheya and Boghewala were involved in the distillation and sale of illicit liquor near the Sutlej river banks.
During the raid, the police discovered multiple plastic tarpaulin drums hidden along the riverbank containing around 1,200 litres of lahan. Three individuals — Sukhwinder Singh, alias Billu, Gurdyal Singh and Gulab Singh —were arrested on the spot. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act and Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused. Raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts, claimed the police.
