Mohali court rejects pre-arrest bail of 2 accused

A Mohali court has dismissed anticipatory bail applications of ASI Rishi Raj Singh and chartered accountant Sunil Aggarwal in a criminal conspiracy and abetment to suicide case of Sector 82-based immigration agent Rajdeep Singh.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Gurjot Singh Kaler, who was also named in the suicide note, has been on the run for the past six days.

ASI Rishi Raj Singh, posted as Kaler’s gunman, stated in his anticipatory bail application that he had no role in the suicide of Rajdeep.

The ASI claimed that he was only following the orders of his senior officer and he had accompanied the victim to the HDFC Bank in Sector 68 to collect a statement of the loan account.

However, the court was apprised that ASI Rishi Raj Singh had tried to tamper with the entry register and score off the phone number mentioned in it.

ASI Rishi Raj Singh and another person can be seen in the CCTV footage of a housing society taking the victim along with them in the vehicle.

Rajdeep’s family, through advocate Rajesh Gupta, opposed the bail application in the court.

Hours after an immigration consultant allegedly shot himself dead inside a bank here, the Mohali police registered an FIR against AIG Kaler, ASI Rishi Raj Singh and three others on the charges of criminal conspiracy and abetment to suicide.

Rajdeep allegedly died by suicide using his licensed revolver inside the washroom of HDFC Bank. The others booked include Aggarwal, Rinku Krishna, a caterer, and Ferozepur resident Saina Arora.

Victim’s father Paramjeet Singh alleged that his son was forcibly taken to the bank to secure a loan for repaying the money the suspects had invested in his immigration business.

He alleged that the AIG and others had been harassing his son and threatening to implicate him and his family in false cases if their profit money wasn’t paid.

“In February, my son returned Rs 1.60 crore to Kaler. The AIG had also invested Rs 2.4 crore in the business of Rajdeep’s old associate Aggarwal. Kaler had secured blank cheques from my son,” he had stated in the FIR.
