Mohali man booked for impersonating minister's husband, seeking money

The Malout City police have booked Bhalinderpal Singh, a resident of Mohali, for allegedly attempting to cheat a local money exchange shop owner by impersonating the husband of Cabinet minister Dr Baljit Kaur.

The complainant, Ajwinder Singh, informed the police that he received a call around 11.30 am on December 8 from an unknown number. "The caller claimed to be minister Dr Baljit Kaur’s husband and sought Rs 27,000, saying he needed to pay his child’s school fee. Suspecting fraud, I disconnected the call. A minute later, the same person dialled my brother’s phone number and repeated the demand," alleged the complainant.

A case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS had been registered, but the accused was yet to be arrested.

Notably, a case of fraud was registered against him about three years ago as well.
