A team of Rupnagar Forest Department caged a monkey that reportedly attacked several residents here. The simian had recently attacked a minor girl and seriously injured her, following which a trap was laid. Forest officials said the simian had attacked around 70 people, mostly female. They said the monkey would escape into the forest area after these attacks.
DFO Kulraj Singh Randhawa said a team of Block Officer Sukhbir Singh, Range Officer Narinderpal Singh and forest guards Jasbir Singh, Jaspreet Singh and Gurmukh Singh was deployed to catch the monkey. Although curbing the monkey menace is the duty of the civic body the Forest Department officials had to step in as the monkey was getting aggressive regularly. “It tried to attack the forest guard today but was tranquilised in time near the railway station,” said Randhawa.
