Muktsar, April 17
The much awaited widening of Muktsar-Malout National Highway-354 is set to begin soon, but around 3,000 trees will be uprooted for this work.
The tenders would be opened on May 10 and the work would be allotted by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The 27.66 km stretch would be widened from the existing 7m to 10m and a toll plaza would also come up. The project needs to be constructed within 18 months.
Rahul Sokhal, SDO, PWD (B&R), said, “The entire road will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 129 crore. The forest land will be used for its widening and some land will be acquired to set up the toll plaza. The Government of India will collect the toll tax.” Notably, this particular stretch has always been in poor condition. —
