Muktsar’s war against drugs: 539 held, Rs 1.82 crore assets frozen in 100 days

Under the ongoing “war against drugs” campaign, Muktsar district police have registered 311 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 539 accused in the last 100 days.

During this period, the police claimed to have recovered 41.11 kg of opium, 12 qtl of poppy husk, 2.33 kg of heroin, 64,879 intoxicant pills and capsules, 64 sedative syrup bottles and Rs 6.63 lakh drug money.

In addition, properties worth Rs 1.82 crore belonging to 13 drug traffickers have also been frozen. Further, eight illegal constructions linked to drug smugglers were demolished with the help of the civil administration.

Meanwhile, under its awareness drive, several seminars have been held in schools and colleges to spread awareness on drug menace.

Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary claimed that the district police also helped 555 addicts in getting the medicine from the outpatient opioid assisted treatment (OOAT) clinics and admitted 264 others to the de-addiction centres. “Those released on bail in the drug cases are also being closely monitored by special police teams,” he claimed.

The SSP further sought public cooperation, saying that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility.
