Muslim body urges state to preserve Dargah Imaam Nasir
Muslim organisations have called on the Punjab state government to take immediate action for the preservation and development of the historic Dargah Hazrat Imaam Nasir.
The community leaders, led by Shakeel Ahmed, Estate Officer of the Punjab Waqf Board, presented a memorandum to Deepak Bali, Advisor to the state government on cultural affairs, requesting attention to the deteriorating condition of the site.
The leaders highlighted that the entire land belongs to the Waqf Board and that the building, which is around 1400 years old, holds significant historical value. They mentioned that Sheikh Baba Farid had stayed at the mosque for 40 days, and his room remains preserved at the site.
The community members expressed concern over the neglect of the Dargah by the tourism department, which has resulted in its poor condition.
Specifically, they pointed out that the entrance gate, once a major attraction, is deteriorating due to tampering with the intricate craftsmanship. They also requested the restoration of the minars and the removal of encroachments around the building’s perimeter.
The delegation, which included Sayed Nisaruddin Peerzada, Ayub Khan, Kaleem Azad, Davinder S. Roni, Councillor Jatin Gulati, and Gurmeet Singh, received assurances from Bali that he would coordinate with the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Department to ensure the preservation of the Dargah.
