Mystery continues to shroud killing of RSS leader’s son Naveen Arora; main shooter dead after police encounter
The Ferozepur police have also unearthed a money trail indicating that a ransom of Rs 65,000 was paid to another accused for procuring the weapon used in the crime
Mystery continues to shroud the killing of Naveen Arora, son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who was shot dead on the evening of November 15. The police have arrested four accused, including a Ludhiana‑based woman involved in the crime, and one of the main shooters — who reportedly fired at Naveen — was killed in a shootout today.
Till date, the cops have arrested Gursimran Singh alias Jatin Kali (22) — who, according to police, was given the contract to kill Naveen — along with two other accused, Kanav (27) and Harsh (22), who were part of the conspiracy, and Bhawna, the woman who allegedly provided shelter to one of the accused.
As per information, police have also apprehended another accused whose identity has not been revealed, as disclosing it might compromise the ongoing investigation, the police stated.
The Ferozepur police have also unearthed a money trail indicating that a ransom of Rs 65,000 was paid to Gursimran, which was spent on procuring the weapon used in the crime from Uttar Pradesh, among other expenses. An amount of Rs 1 lakh promised to the other accused was reportedly never paid.
In the latest development, police arrested Badal, the main shooter, from Zira last evening. During interrogation, he revealed that he had been planning to flee to Rajasthan with the help of two accomplices, Raju and Sonu.
Badal also stated that he was supposed to meet his accomplices near the cremation ground at Mamu Joya village in Jalalabad area, following which the police took him there. According to the police, as they reached the cremation ground, two unidentified persons already present opened fire at them.
While addressing media, Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG, Ferozepur Range, said that the police returned fire. In the ensuing exchange, the two assailants allegedly fired several rounds at police. Police also fired back and during this crossfire, Badal was seriously injured.
Badal was rushed to the civil hospital in Fazilka, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier, the police had also arrested Gursimran Singh alias Jatin Kali during an encounter near Sodhiwala village in Arifke; during the chase he was hit in the leg and taken to the civil hospital.
The DIG said that the police have also recovered two pistols (.30‑bore and .32‑bore) from the spot. “Whether the same .32‑bore pistol was used to kill Naveen will be ascertained only after the forensic test of the weapon,” he said.
However, despite a series of arrests and two shootouts over the last two weeks, the conspiracy behind Naveen’s killing — whether it was an ideological killing or driven by personal enmity — remains unclear. The DIG said that police are exploring all angles and hope the facts will emerge soon.
