Nadda promises adequate DAP supply for rabi season
Chandigarh, August 31
In a bid to ensure adequate supply of fertilisers to farmers during rabi season, Special Chief Secretary Agriculture KAP Sinha recently met Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers JP Nadda in New Delhi.
The development came close on the heels of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann taking up the matter with the Union Minister to apprise him about less supply of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) in August as compared to the allocation.
Accompanied by senior officials from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department and Markfed, Sinha emphasised the state’s fertiliser needs for the 2024-25 rabi season.
Punjab is expecting to sow wheat on approximately 35 lakh hectares, requiring around 5.50 lakh metric tonnes of DAP. During 2023-24, the state had contributed 46 per cent share of wheat in the Centre pool.
The Government of India during the recent zonal conference allocated 4.50 lakh metric tonne DAP,1.50 lakh metric tonne nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) and 1.50 lakh metric tonne single superphosphate (SSP) to the state for the 2024-25 rabi season.
The Union Minister assured the delegation that adequate quantity of DAP and other fertilisers would be supplied to Punjab over the next two months.
