Sikhs take out nagar kirtan to mark 100th year of ‘Jaito da Morcha’
Jaito, February 19
To observe 100 years of ‘Jaito da Morcha’, a huge nagar kirtan was organised from Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib to Gurdwara Sri Angeetha Sahib here today. On the occasion of the commencement of the centenary of the firing by the British on a peaceful procession of Sikhs on February 21, 1924, at Jaito during the Gurdwara Reform Movement, which had led to killing of many devotees, the town wore a decorated look.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami recalled the history of ‘Jaito da Morcha’ and released an illustrated book depicting the history of the morcha.
Earlier, the nagar kirtan while passing through various parts of the town ended at Gurdwara Sri Angeetha Sahib. Various tableaus related to the ‘Jaito da Morcha’ became the centre of attraction for the devotees. These included a specially prepared tableau of Nabha jail.
