Navjot Singh Sidhu complains of joint pain in jail; doctor advises him to lose weight

Congress leader Navjot Sidhu, lodged in Patiala Central Jail, has complained about acute pain in his knee joints.

Following the complaint, an orthopaedic surgeon examined Sidhu in the jail.

Sidhu has been serving a one-year jail term in a 1988 road rage case.

The former Congress chief is reportedly unable to do routine work owing to the joint pain.

It has been learnt that Sidhu has to sleep on the ground, and finds it difficult to get up,  given his 123 kg weight. Sidhu’s toilet seat is also said to be low for his height and weight.

The doctor is appeared to have suggested Sidhu to lose weight. He has been advised knee-strengthening exercises—quadriceps and hamstring exercises.

Sidhu has been advised to sleep on the bed and not on the floor. He has been warned that he would further develop pain in his joints if he did not take remedial measures.

Doctors have prescribed painkillers and joint lubricating drugs to Sidhu. Oral analgesic medicines have been prescribed.

Following the doctor’s advice, the jail authorities have given him a wooden cot.
