Abohar, July 13

The Ambala Division Railway Manager (DRM) Mandeep Singh Bhatia yesterday inspected the ongoing renovation work at the Abohar station and gave necessary guidelines to the officials concerned and contractors. With a budget of Rs 21 crore, the work is expected to complete soon. On the occasion, social activists, led by Samaj Sudhar Sabha president Rajesh Gupta, submitted a memorandum to the DRM. They demanded that the Udyan Abha Toofan Express, which used to run from Sriganganagar to Howrah through Abohar and was cancelled by the Eastern Railway during the Covid pandemic, should be restored as its closure had affected hundreds of people across the country. In the memorandum, the social activists said only two trains were plying on the Fazilka-Abohar section which was developed with a budget of Rs 400 crore in 2012.

The activists said the 14639-14640 train, which runs from Ferozepur to Mohali-Chandigarh, should be extended till Sriganganagar through the Fazilka-Abohar route. The 14701-14702 Mumbai-Bandra-Aravali Express, which halts at Sriganganagar for 19 hours, should be extended to Ferozepur via the Abohar-Fazilka route.

The DRM said he would take up the issues and demands with the senior authorities.
