Miffed over the statement of Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj regarding establishment of a new grain market on a piece of land of Bir Aishwan Wildlife Sanctuary, members of social organisations and leaders of oppositions parties today staged a dharna near the residence of the legislator.

The protesters said they would not allow ruining of Bir Aishwan Wildlife Sanctuary at any cost. They added that the proposal would lead to cutting of trees, besides destroying the natural habitat of animals and birds.

Issuing clarification, Bharaj said she had raised this issue during the previous session of the Vidhan Sabha. She said she had informed about the “Will” of the last king of the erstwhile Jind state and the land in question was adjoining Bir Aishwan Wildlife Sanctuary.
