Nihang chops off youth’s arms over using intoxicant

A young Nihang allegedly chopped off both arms of a youth who, he believed, had consumed an intoxicant, leaving both his bleeding arms dangling.

The injured youth was identified as Jatin Walia, aged 24, a resident of Master Colony in Mandi Gobindgarh.

The attacker was identified as Karambir Singh, alias Lovely Nihang, also a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh.

The injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mandi Gobindgarh, but later shifted to Chandigarh.

Manpreet Singh Deol, SHO, Mandi Gobindgarh, said on the preliminary statement of the victim Jatin Walia, the police had registered a case against Karambir Singh, alias Lovely Nihang, under Sections 109, 115(2), 118 (1) of the BNS and police parties had been formed to arrest him. He said as per preliminary investigation, both allegedly had a heated exchange of words and the reason behind the incident would be ascertained only after the arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, Baba Balbir Singh, head of the Budha Dal sect, has disassociated his sect from the nefarious activities of such fake Nihangs. He said such people bring disrepute to their holy Sikh attire.
