Nims was found dead at one of his three villas at Pillerne-Marra village in North Goa on Sunday morning.

Inspector Rahul Parab, in-charge, Porvorim police station, Goa, said, “Three persons, including a girl, had visited Nims at his private villa on Saturday night, where he used to invite his personal guests only and never rented out to tourists. We have found during the investigation that the trio had come with a plan to extort money from him by making his video in an objectionable position. However, when their trap went awry, they killed him. Two of them, including a girl, have been arrested by the Mumbai police. The efforts are afoot to nab their third accomplice. The deceased and the accused had come to know each other through Instagram.”

The police have recovered an SUV, a gold chain, a gold bracelet and a cellphone of the deceased worth Rs 47 lakh.

His childhood friends said Nims was a good athlete and sportsperson from his school days in Mussoorie. “The culprits, whoever they are, should face the law,” said a friend of the deceased.

Those arrested have been identified as a 22-year-old Nitu Shankar Rahuja, who works at an electronics showroom in Bhopal and her friend 32-year-old Jitendra Ramchandra Sahu, who works with a stock trading company in Bhopal. Their third accomplice, who is on the run, reportedly belongs to Jhansi.

The post-mortem report has suggested that Nims was smothered with a pillow, said the police. Besides, the body bore some injury marks and scratches.

A case of murder and dacoity has been registered at the Porvorim police station.

The deceased belonged to Badal village. However, for the past few years, he was living alone in Goa and fond of hosting guests and throwing parties. The deceased is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
