Panjab University (PU) has left students and teachers in a lurch as no decision is yet taken on admission to BCom at the Panjab University Rural Centre (PURC) in Kauni village here. However, the admission process for other courses has started.
This centre offers courses like BA, BBA, PGDCA and BCom. However, the decision to continue BCom-I has been put in abeyance and there is no decision yet to start admissions to BCom-II and BCom-III.
As a result, teachers and students are a worried lot. The university authorities have even released the admission schedule for other courses, but BCom is not mentioned there.
A teacher said, “This centre is running into losses. But it doesn’t mean to discontinue a course mid-term. Now, the students who have appeared in BCom-I and BCom-II will have to get admission somewhere else.”
There are nearly 160 students in this centre and 24 of them are enrolled in BCom.
Rajesh Mishra, director, PURC, Kauni, said, “The decision to continue BCom-I is in abeyance. As of now there is no communication to start admissions to BCom-II and BCom-III. The centre is running into losses.”
Sources in the university said due to the faulty planning and negligence of the officials concerned, this centre had never been able to fill the seats. For instance, the centre was inaugurated in 2010 and since then not even a single student got admission in BBA and PGDCA here. However, staff at the centre blamed the unfriendly location as a major reason behind it.
