No lifting of paddy is being done at Nawanshahr and Jalandhar grain markets. There are 30 villages in Nawanshahr district and 79 in Jalandhar. The produce brought to mandis by farmers is, however, being procured.
In Jalandhar, 4,888 MT paddy arrived on Thursday. In all, 18,820 MT paddy has arrived in mandis and 12,178 MT has been procured. Following purchase, the produce is lying in the mandis.
“The produce that I brought to the mandi has been procured, but not lifted,” said Satnam Singh of Naura village in Banga.
Arhtiya Association chief Kashmiri Lal said there was no space at the shellers, that’s why no lifting was being done.
