The BBMB and the Punjab Government are on a collision course again. This time over the appointment of the board Secretary.

With Balvir Singh Simhar of Rajasthan being promoted, the post of Secretary has fallen vacant. A few days ago, the BBMB had written a letter to the Water Resources Department of Punjab informing about the changes in the appointment criteria for the post. The Punjab Government objected to the changes.

Sources in the Water Resources Department say they suspect the new criteria has been tailor-made for allowing advantage to Haryana. The new criteria made it mandatory that the person applying for the post should have 20 years of work experience. Only Superintending Engineers or Executive Engineers are eligible for the post.
