NRI minister appeals for donations to rebuild Punjab after floods

Punjab government is now approaching Punjabi industrialists and Non-Resident Indians to contribute generously to the newly created Rangla Punjab Vikas Fund, to help the state government rebuild the flood-ravaged state.

As part of this initiative, the state Industry and NRI Affairs minister, Sanjeev Arora, on Tuesday mobilised 13 industrialists from Ludhiana, who came and donated crores of rupees to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

These industrialists, from across different sectors, have donated between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 crore each.

The NRI minister, Sanjeev Arora, has himself individually donated Rs 50 lakh to this fund.

“Since the donations made to the fund are exempt from the Foreign Currency Regulations Act and also count towards Corporate Social Responsibility spending of companies, I request more and more NRIs and corporates to donate to this fund,” he said.

The minister said that thousands of kilometers of roads have been damaged, while thousands of buildings of schools, health centers, and other government departments have also been damaged.

Thus, Punjab needs funds to rebuild these, he said.
