Official’s no to power of attorney registration without maker’s consent
Police have launched an investigation into a case in which close relatives of a physically challenged youth from Ranwan village allegedly tried to fraudulently register a power of attorney for 40 bighas of land in his name. The power of attorney, which appeared to be forged, was meant to grant control over the property to the suspects under the pretext of a loan witness.
The fraudulent attempt was thwarted by Naib Tehsildar Vinod Mehta, who, upon reviewing the document on January 15, withheld it. Following this, DSP Rajan Sharma of Ahmedgarh acknowledged the complaint from the disabled youth, Gursewak Singh, who accused his maternal uncle’s daughter, Raj Kaur, and her husband, Harinder Singh, of attempting to defraud him of his property.
“We have initiated a probe into the allegations made by the complainant,” said DSP Sharma, adding that further action would be taken after recording the statement of the concerned Tehsildar.
According to the complaint, the suspects, along with Gursewak Singh, had presented a general power of attorney document allegedly signed under his thumb impression to Tehsildar Mehta for verification. When the Tehsildar crosschecked with Singh, he confirmed that he had only agreed to sign as a witness for a loan.
