Both share Punjabi roots, particularly in Jalandhar and love for the state has kept the two friends together through their "years of struggle".

"Both of us come from Jalandhar. We go back over 15 years when both of us were starting out on our respective career paths. I was cutting my teeth in politics and Diljit was aspiring in the world of music. Our love for Punjab, Punjabi youth and shared roots in Jalandhar has kept us connected," Shergill told The Tribune after the meeting at his upscale Defence Colony residence in Delhi.

The two were meeting after a year. They last met in London in 2023.

Shergill and Diljit both gave a common message for youth of Punjab "work hard and sky is the limit”.

Shergill said he and Diljit both expressed concern over the high rates of drug addiction in Punjab and the constant race among state's youth to immigrate to foreign shores.

Later, taking to X, Shergill said, "Touched by the gesture of my friend and superstar

@diljitdosanjh to take out time and visit my home ! His humbleness, humility and kindness is a learning in itself for everyone. Always pray to Waheguru Ji for his success, good health and can’t thank him enough for making the Nation proud. Punjabi Chaaa Gayeee Oyeee.'

Diljit had on Sunday from the stage of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the venue of his concert, waved the Indian Flag.

At his meeting with Jaiveer he said, "I have taken inspiration from my friend."

Diljit was accompanied by long time manager Sonali and aide Gurpartap Kang, who also hail from Punjab.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati tour has made waves internationally, with shows in Canada, the US, Australia, the UK, Italy and New Zealand.

Diljit will now move to Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and other locations before concluding the concert leg in Guwahati on December 29.
