Vijender Singh, who made history by becoming the first Indian boxer to qualify for three consecutive Olympic Games editions in 2012, today inspired youth to turn towards sports.
He was the chief guest at the International Professional Boxing Championship that was organised by the district police under the “War Against Drugs” campaign.
Vijender Singh motivated the players and the youth present at the event to stay away from drugs and get themselves involved in sports. He said sports were a powerful weapon to channelise the energy of the youth in the right direction, which protects them from drugs.
Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu said the problem of drugs could be eradicated only through social efforts. Sports motivate our youth to aspire for higher ideals and lead a better life.
SSP Varinder Singh Brar said the police were determined to completely eradicate drugs, and the cooperation of the people was essential for this purpose.
