Sangrur, February 4
The Akal Takht should act fairly and why such committees were not formed earlier to probe pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief. I have no problem with the takht, but they should implement one Maryada for all. — Ranjit Singh Dhandrianwala, Sikh preacher
On second consecutive day, members of various Sikh outfits converged on Kanakwal Bhanuga village gurdwara to oppose religious discourse by Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhandrianwala at Gidriani village on Tuesday.
The police officials, however, did not allow them to go near the venue of the religious programme.
“We will try to protest tomorrow also as the police cannot stop us from agitating against Dhadrianwala, who has been spreading lies about Sikh religion. Police today again did not allow us to go near the gurdwara,” said Bachitar Singh, president of the Granthi Sabha.
Members of various Sikh organisations, including Damdami Taksal, Satkar Committee, Granthi Sabha, Panj Pardhani Satkar Sabha, Damdami Taksal Nihang Singh, Sant Samaj and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha reached Kanakwal Bhangua village to oppose the event.
Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Sandeep Garg said since the event organisers had obtained permission, they had deputed police to maintain law and order.
“We would not allow anyone to disturb law and order,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Garg.
Later in the evening, Dhadrianwala claimed the Akal Takht had given him one month to clarify his stance before a designated panel over his alleged distortion of Sikh principles.
“The Akal Takht should act fairly and why such committees were not formed earlier to probe pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief. I have no problem with the takht, but they should implement one Maryada for all,” he alleged.
