‘Operation Shield’ mock drill in Punjab tomorrow
Punjab will conduct mock drill under “Operation Shield” in its border districts on May 31. Special DGP Sanjeev Kalra, who is also Punjab Home Guards Commandant General, issued the orders in this regard today.
The orders said the mock drill was being conducted on the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Earlier, the state had refused to conduct the drill on Thursday, citing training issues of the civil defence staff. The drill will include taking safety measures during an air raid.
Highly placed sources informed that the mock drills will basically test various aspects that were found severely lacking during the May 7 exercise. Serious lacunae were discovered in the civil defence infrastructure, non-functional hotlines, sirens malfunctioned at some places and the lack of training among volunteers was also observed, a top official told The Tribune.
