Bathinda, February 13
Highlighting alleged irregularities in the voters’ list in Bathinda, the SAD and AAP have raised doubts over the intention of the state government and State Election Commission with regard to conducting free and fair elections.
Former SAD minister Sikander Singh Maluka today raised fears of booth capturing and rigging in the MC and nagar panchayat polls with the support of the police.
Maluka said a police officer linked with the Bathinda CIA had warned party candidates and supporters against having party booths outside the polling stations. “Even the administration is also playing in hands of the ruling Congress and has changed a polling station a day prior to the elections,” he said.
Referring to irregularities in the voters’ list, Bathinda AAP district president Navdeep Singh Jeeda said there were many flaws which raised suspicion of rigging in the election.
He said the Bathinda Municipal Corporation had more than 750 names in the voters’ list with incomplete information.
“In the voters’ list, in some cases, photographs are missing while some have missing addresses or voter card numbers. This raises serious doubts over the intention of the ruling party and the EC,” he added.
“It is the responsibility of the EC to conduct free and fair elections. Such irregularities damage its credibility,” Jeeda added.
